"Providing a foundation for life"

Welcome to the Beccles Free School website!

Message from the Headteacher

We are approaching the end of second Spring Term at Beccles Free School.  We have continued to strive to make sure that our students are able to learn in a welcoming, positive environment that enables each individual to make excellent progress and enjoy their education.   In providing a 'Foundation For Life' we expect our students to work hard, take a lead role in managing their learning and to come together as a community in which we can celebrate the successes of all members of our school.

We have been delighted to welcome Fran Williamson back into school to work with our students.  Fran has been to speak and work with students on several occasions and is nothing short of inspirational.  We are very grateful to all of our visiting speakers who have come to speak about topics as wide ranging as midwifery, politics, healthy living and Further and Higher Education.

A huge amount of praise should be given to all members of our school community who came together to raise in excess of £2000 as part of our readathon.   This money was donated to 3 charities working with children - CLIC Sargent; Roald Dahl’s Marvellous Children’s Charity; Together for Short Lives.

UntitledWe also celebrated World Book Day in fine style with the aim of promoting the importance of reading for pleasure amongst our students.  Students had the opportunity to take part in a school 'Book Election' which has led to the democratic decision to buy copies of 'Cirque de Freak' by Darren Shan for our school library.  Thank you also to the families who took part in our 'Literary Bake Off’ that was truly inspirational.  Jack Howlett took first place with his interpretation of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory's 'Square Sweets that Look Round'.

All of these events had the aim of developing at least one of our 6 Cs to Success.  As our community has grown in size it has become even more important that these 6Cs to Success underpin each aspect of our work. We are very grateful for the support that parents, carers, families and the local community have provided in helping us to provide an enriching and challenging curriculum.

We are proud of our students and staff and are striving to ensure that all students feel valued, their achievements are recognised and that they develop into the wonderful young adults that they are capable of being.   We have high expectations of appearance and behaviour and encourage our students to be role models both in and out of school.   Our Year 10 students drew praise from many quarters for their maturity and positive attitudes when visiting the SkillsEastofEngland event in Norwich.  In this way they help to generate the atmosphere in which they can maximise their potential and achieve the levels of progress that we would all like to see.

If any prospective parent / carer would like to visit our school then please do not hesitate to contact the school on 01502 526640 or via the email address enquiries@becclesfreeschool.org.uk.

Thank you to all our parents / carers for their continued support of the school.
